FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join the Lehi Junior Devo MTB Team?
The team is for 7th and 8th graders (for the fall of 2026) who live in the Lehi High School geographic boundaries, regardless of which school/homeschool they attend.
Are there tryouts or cuts?
No! Everyone rides—there are no tryouts or cuts. The team is open to riders of all levels. Some riders will be very competitive while others ride just for fun.
When does the season run?
The regular season runs from June 1st through September, with preseason activities starting April 1st.
How much does it cost to join?
There are two separate fees: team fees of $330 (due April 1st) and Utah NICA League fees of $320. Team fees cover the rider's kit and team swag, while league fees cover races, insurance, etc. Additional costs include equipment (bike, helmet, etc.). Financial assistance is available—please contact us if cost is a concern.
Do riders have to race?
No, riders are not required to race, but most want to. If riders choose to race, they must complete the required 3 hours of trail building work.
What kind of bike does my rider need?
A quality mountain bike that will hold up to trail riding is required. Department store bikes typically can't handle the trails we ride. If you need help choosing a bike, please reach out to one of our coaches.
When and where are practices?
Practice is held 2-3 days a week: Monday and Thursday evenings at 6pm, and every other Saturday morning at 7am. Main practice locations include Eagle Mountain, Little Valley in Draper, and occasional practices at Valley Vista in Pleasant Grove or Butterfield Canyon in Herriman.
Is practice mandatory?
Practice is not mandatory, though we find that the more kids come to practice, the more they enjoy the season. We just ask that riders notify a coach if they'll be missing practice.
What is GRiT?
GRiT stands for Girls Riding Together. It's a special program led by women coaches that focuses on creating a supportive environment for girls on the team. Monthly GRiT activities are held on Tuesdays during the season.
How are parents expected to be involved?
We need parent involvement! Parents help transport kids to/from practice (carpooling encouraged), volunteer at races (at least twice - once for the team, once for the league per rider), help with team activities, and encourage bike maintenance and rider readiness.
